class action lawsuit/minocycline side effects

First I just would like to thank you for stopping by. This is about my wonderful daughter and the nightmare of Minocycline. Crystal is 23 years old and started taking Minocycline (50mg) for acne. She took it for about 2 months and it was not doing anything for the problem. The Doctor put her on 100mg once a day. After about a week or so we started to see some changes in her. Before all of this Crystal has never taken drugs or never drank alcohol So lets rule that out right away.

The changes we saw in her were not good. She started staying in her room a lot. She was looking for a job but was having a hard time like so many other people and just could not find one. When she stayed in her room she would lock the door and put things to block it closed.

Not to go into a long story these are a few of the other things that happened to her.

disorientation, hallucinations, impaired memory, lack of drive, nervousness, sleeplessness, stomach upset, confusion, mood and mental changes, dizziness, agitation, hostility, confusion, headache, muscle pain, blurred vision, catatonic and depersonalized symptoms, there is more but we will get back to that later.

If you or someone you know has or had any of this happen to them please let me know. You see there is nothing told to you that this minocycline can cause these side effects. Like any Mom or Dad you would never let any of your loved ones take this if they knew the truth about what it can do to you.

When I started doing my own reading that is when I found out the danger of this drug and what the outer shell is made of.

1) Shellac

2) Sodium Lauryl Sulfate

3) Dehydrated Alcohol

4) Butyl Alcohol

5) Isopropyl Alcohol

6) Propylene Glycol

7) Strong Ammonia

8) Black Iron Oxide

9) Titanium Dioxide

10) FD&C Red #3 Food Coloring

11) FD&C Yellow # 6 Sunset Yellow (any product that contains fd&c yellow #6 is to be taken off shelves by 2008-2010)

12) D&C Red #33

13) Red Iron Oxide

14) Gelatio-collagan

I will be adding more to this blog, I am very new at this and I have no idea if I am doing it right.

Soon I will write down the whole story of my daughter and how the hospital pushed her aside (maybe because she had no Insurance) and used the Baker Act and had her put in a mental hospital for 4 days. That is another story and what can happen to you if you use Minocycline!

Thank you very much for stopping by.

  1. I know the feeling....That sounds pretty much like me, except ten years down the road and a lot worse before I figured it out. It's completely terrifying in a lot of different ways. Just something to talk to your primary care physician about... ask specifically for her to be checked for high candida levels in her blood. Apparently long use of antibiotics can cause that to occur, and basically, that's a systemic fungal infection that can cause a lot of things to happen. Doctors don't usually routinely check for it in blood tests though, so you have to ask, as obviously, many of them overlook this as a cause, because it took over 10 years to put two and two together about that aspect of it. I'm starting to learn that it isn't just one source of action to take in order to get back on track. It's many. Don't let her wait until her body is degenerated more like mine is. Let me know about that suit, because I'm all in. This has destroyed my life and made every day excruciatingly uncomfortable. To make matters worse, every day is unpredictable, because sometimes I can think straight, and sometimes I just have to put up with people looking at me like I'm crazy or shut myself up in a room somewhere. It's hard to function, have a relationship, form normal friendships, complete everyday tasks, and have a general appreciation for life, and yes, I believe now that minocyline is the reason for all of the things that you listed above happening to me. There should be some form of compensation for it, because all we wanted was clear skin and to have a minor infection treated with a "mild" form of Accutane. Yea right...mild my *ss. There's absolutely nothing mild about my throbbing joints and neurological degeneration...nothing.

  2. My daughter had minocycline induced lupus. Hospitalized twice for pain and swelling. High liver enzymes. Dealt with doctors who had no clue. Finally went to Columbia Presbyterian in Manhattan and found a doctor who saved my child. This nightmare lasted about 3 years. Many children are being hurt by this drug and we have to do something about it.
I am in for a class action lawsuit. Lets do it!

    1. Hi Missy,
His name is Dr Andrew Eichenfield.212-305-9304. He put her on a medrol regiment. He is amazing and you need to see him if your daughter is still suffering. This craziness started in October 2009 at age 16. My daughter is now 20 yrs old and doing great but still goes for bloodwork every 6 months. This doctor, through his research on this drug, minocycline, feels it has something to do with girls and their hormones resulting in the lupus symptoms.
Let me know how it goes and I wish you the best.

    2. I believe i have developed drug induced lupus as well. My muscles hurt all the time and the doctors cant seem to find the problem. Minocycline also gave me pneumonia.

  4. This would be my great niece who I raised for 13 years also. She took it in 1996 and within 5 weeks was blind and in the hospital at OHSU in Portland Oregon. She is some better, but still having residual problems. Horrible stuff with little literature on it back there. Her doctor and phamacist had no clue either. Let me know if you get a class action going. Our lawyer dropped us years ago.

  5. I was on Minocycline from Jan 2011-July/Aug 2011 when I stopped on my own. I never connected my ailments to the drug I got from my dermatologist. I started having bad joint pain in my left elbow, then to my left wrist, then same in right arm. I went to urgent care when they suggested R.A. I went to the hospital a wk later because the pain traceled to my legs and ankles and became more excruciating. They also suggested R.A. Over months as the pain progressed, I became depressed, cried a lot more, was almost confined to the couch because it hurt too bad to walk, fever, dizzines, forgetfulness, extreme fatigue, swollen fingers and toes, loss of appetite, discoloration, etc. I started to believe I was dying because I felt so opposite of how I always felt and was always in pain. I had been to urgent care, er, my physician, rheumologist, internal diease. I have had all kinds of blood work and tests and still no answers. I stopped taking minocycline because drs had me on other meds for pain and inflammation. I wasn't consistent with them because I didn't like how they made me feel either. Little by little I started to feel the excruciating pain disappearing and family noticed color back into my skin. As soon as I felt a little more like myself I went back to the dermatologist to resume my regime. Again I was given minocycline. I took the dose next day and within min felt nauseated. I still didn't connect until I felt pain in my elbow again. I don't know what hit but I thought "could it be?" I looked up side effects of minocycline and was shocked that just about everything I experienced was on the list and even things I had weren't. I stopped taking it completely. I called all the specialists and drs I've seen and my dermatologist to tell them that I believed my ailments were caused by minocycline and all they said was they would note it. It took a few weeks to feel a little like I did before that dermatologist visit. Since I've stopped using it I do feel better but I'm not completely as I was. I still every now and then feel slight pain in my elbows, my fingers still swell, I seem to be more tired than before taking those meds, and most painful one is my fingertips get numb and turn whitish (not specified on list that i have found but could be nerve damage). I've actually have this problem worse in winter and this last week has been the worst. I tried contacting lawyers for a lawsuit but no one wants to take it. I don't understand how others can go after drug companies but I'm having a problem. I'm not the same as I was before I used it and now have long-term effects of it.

    2. Your fingers sound like Raynauds (it would fit with the other autoimmune symptoms you expereinced). I was just diagnosed with minocycline-induced lupus. After taking it for years for adult acne, I started to have the symptoms you have described and kept going in to urgent care on Fridays (thinking I might die over the weekend). Results included "allergic to your cat".
I figured it out pretty quickly, after my MD sent me for bloodwork and I had a a positive ANA. It was looking like Lupus. I had none in my family, but had experienced what seemed like "almost dead" fingers on my left hand in my twenty's - Raynaud's Syndrome and pregnancy-induced hypertension and pre-eclampsia resulting in the premature birth of my son.
(miscarriages are common with minocycline-induced Lupus.
I took myself off, like you, three weeks ago and my symptoms are so much better. My labs are improving. From what I can tell from the research, it should resolve. Given your story, I'll have to see. There are other meds that can cause lupus as well. So, if you're had this, I'd check out all medications before starting anything.

  7. I would like to join this lawsuit. I took minocycline for a month or so in 2008 and immediately afterwards my health began deteriorating. I developed pain, strange visibly inflamed lesions on my skin, and a condition that has subsequently been referred to by different physicians as either drug-induced-lupus-like syndrome, or crohn's disease+ psoriasis, all autoimmune conditions directly related to taking this medication. please contact me, daveamar@mail.com as i would like to join this lawsuit.

  8. My name is Destiny and i am seventeen. I was on Solodyn for my acne for almost a year, 60 mg. I had headaches frequently and even passed out a couple of times, but the doctor told us it was probably not the medication, and to continue taking it because it seemed to be working. The dizziness and the fainting got worse. I went to the eye doctor and they informed me after a few tests that I have intercranial hyptertension, and I have lost 40% of my peripheral vision in six months. Since I was diagnosed I've had to go through an MRI and plan to have a spinal tap next week, both very expensive procedures. I would like to join this lawsuit. 9. Hello. My name is Megan I am 22 years old I was taking minocycline for one year. First I took solody 80mg once per day for 2 months. My insurance no longer covered it so my dermatologist switched to the generic which was minocycline 100mg twice per day. I started getting headached everyday and thought it was just because I needed glasses. To make a long story short I was just (2 days ago) diagnosed with psuedotumor ceribril. I had bloodwork, a CT scan, MRI and spinal tap. I just started taking 1000mg/day of diamox. Doctors believe it is from the minocycline. I would love to join this lawsuit because this drug should not be on the market. I have read way to many stories about this medication! Please contact me ciprianomegan@yahoo.com. Thanks!

  10. OMG is anyone still considering or have a class action lawsuit about this. I want in. I was taking minocycline for only 2 weeks, I started with a horrible rash, then went into traveling debilitating joint pain. It was so bad I missed almost a month of work, my dr's had no clue, had over $30,000 worth of bloodwork done, no one would help acted like they didn't care and that I had lupus and needed to deal with it. Finally I went to pharmacy and was telling pharmacist about it she said let me get the sheet that comes with the meds, she told me about drug induced lupus finally I got into an RA specialist and she tested me for lupus and drug induced and it came back as drug induced. This med is nothing to play around with it got so bad in that month that I could not walk, I could not breathe right, I had claw hands for weeks and could not move my fingers, I could not drive, and to a lot of people that sad mild, but I tell you I have a Extremely high pain tollerance and have had 2 c-sections and nothing has touched the pain I felt during that month, went to ER one night and they turned me away saying there was nothing they could do for me other than prednisone, which I was already on at that point. I was taking percocets like candy and nothing helped, NOTHING. Someone needs to take this med off of the market NOW!!!! If someone has any information about how I can become involved in this lawsuit please contact me at themcdaniels13@gmail.com and I am so SORRY all of you had similar experiences. I look forward to speaking with someone about this soon. Also all of this just happened over the past month, It started 3/7/13. Good luck to you all.

  12. My son developed ulcerative colitis after taking minocycline. He started taking the drug at age 15 almost 16 and by the time he was 20, he was in for his third colonoscopy. His life then consisted of steroid enemas, and oral meds to control his colitis.

  13. I started to develope severe cystic acne around 19/20yrs old and became tired of it. At 21yrs old I finally seen a doctor for it and of couse was prescribed minocycline. The doctor said that I should be fine taking it because the benefits would outweigh the side effects. Well I had to stop taking the medicine because now I am currently experiencing bouts of numbess all over my entire body and I did have a yeast infection. I have a mild form of depression and the drug has caused me to become depressed than I would never expected; I was even having increased suicidal thoughts, it was that bad. I now also have been becoming more agrivated, and anxious and isolate myself more since it's made my social anxiety symptoms worse. Overall, the drug has made problems that I already have worse and seems to be giving me more problems. I've even been having the most terrifying nightmares; ones that I hope will go away. Minocycline should not be on the shelves like the rest of the drugs from various drug companies that are ruining innocent people, which have and more than likely still need suing. I'm all for joining this lawsuit against another dangerous drug. My email is blackenedpirate19@yahoo.com. I hope I don't have more problems with this drug but will write about anymore on here if I do.

    1. Sarah I am a mother whose son is going though this same thing. He has had more bouts of it now after over 8 months of stopping the minocycline. He was better but definitely not right. He just recently told a friend about having suicidal thoughts. He only took it about 8 days. I noticed your post was from back in 2013. I want to try and talk to people to see if it's still lasting and how long these feelings have lasted for each individual. Thank you for your help.

  15. I took minocycline for ten months and when I was on it I developed photoopsia, confusion, I felt very 'out of it', numbness in the right side of my face, pain on the bridge of my nose. Most of the problems I developed on the drug were cognitive problems. I had vision changes and mental changes and developed chronic pain. I took minocycline in 2007 and I still have many of these problems but no diagnosis. The chronic pain was in my neck for many years but is now more in my eyes than my neck. Anyone experience anything similar? Help.

  22. Hi. My dad had what his derm called barbers itch infection. he prescribed this drug, minoclycline. he took it about 2 weeks. My dad experienced severe nausea, vomiting, fatigue and just general ill feeling. he also complained of kidney pain while taking it. Anyway, he is 81 years old, and has been declining since. he has joint pain, intermittent swelling of hands, and feet, constipation, fatigue, shortness of breath upon exertion. His hemoglobin has been decreasing and his ferritin levels are extremely high. he also has a sed rate of 116 which is extreme! Sadly to say, he is going to a hematologist now. I'm wondering if this drug made him decline like this. He was healthy except for the barbers itch last December, which was just itchy and then all of the sudden he's in a life threatening mode.

  25. I took Minocycline for years - 10+? I never had an side effects until 5 1/2 years ago when I woke up one morning dizzy. The dizziness would not go away and I waited 7 weeks to see an ENT doctor. They sent me to vestibular therapy. Several weeks after the dizziness began my sister looked at me and said "why are your ears blue?" I called my ENT and she sent me to the E.R. They could find no reason, my oxygen levels were fine so they sent me home. The whites of my eyes, my finger and toenails, gums, teeth and inside my ears are stained blue. I finally went to another city to have balance testing done which basically said that my left inner ear was completely damaged and no longer worked. I had so much blood work done I was tested for silver poisoning, arsenic, you name it all results were normal. I now know that the dizziness and the blue discoloration were caused by Minocycline. This information regarding Minocycline wasn't available five years ago. I continue to struggle with vertigo and take nortriptyline daily. I have to fly in late September and I am terrified. Even changes in weather, pressure affect how I feel. This has changed my life and I would not wish this on my worst enemy.

  29. - Momonamission,
I have been going through something very similar. I am 24 & was prescribed Minocycline (a very evil drug) for my cystic acne back in November. Within just a couple days something terrible happened...and it happened so quick. Something just clicked...and then all of the sudden I started to have the most awful thoughts (obsessive compulsive thoughts) that I have ever had in my entire life. And these thoughts aren't thoughts that I've had before. It's not like I've had them before & the Minocycline is just making them worse...they are terrible, sickening thoughts that literally came out of nowhere. I cried hysterically countless times a day. When I first started taking them, I was also taking birth control at the same time. And when the terrible thoughts & severe depression started, I blamed it on the BC and stopped taking it immediately. However, 2 weeks later, the depression, awful sick feeling, and depression were still extremely strong so I knew it wasn't the BC. I just kept hoping & praying that the BC would leave my system completely and I would feel like myself again, but that did not happen. The depression was taking over my life. I didn't get out of bed any earlier than noon for 3 weeks and was afraid to do anything on my own. I would even have my boyfriend (of 8 years) stay upstairs with me while I was showering and using the bathroom. I was terrified to be alone with my thoughts. I was so extremely panicky & my heart would race a mile a minute the second that I opened my eyes every morning. The thoughts started immediately. Just knowing what my day was going to be filled with made me want to curl up in a ball & never open my eyes ever again. I would not wish ANY of this on my worst enemy. My appetite was nonexistent...I lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks. I had awful stomach pains and everything that I ate made me nauseous. And also, while all of these terrible things were going on in my head for 3 weeks, my skin was also unbelievably dry and itchy...from head to toe. The very bottoms of my feet & palms would itch for hours. My back would itch so bad...and when I would itch it, my whole back would turn bright red and I had welts from scratching it before my skin was so sensitive. I really just thought that I was so dry and itchy because the weather was changing. For 3 weeks I never thought that the Minocycline had anything to do with what was happening to me. I was so desperate for my skin to clear up that it had never even occurred to me that I was severely allergic to the Minocycline. Until, I went to stay with my mom for the weekend because the depression was too much for me to handle. I needed to see her. I expalined everything and she saw my skin and how badly I was itching. She's a nurse & said "oh my God, you're allergic to this stuff!!!!" And she flushed it all down the toilet immediately. I had no idea. Those 3 weeks were a living hell. And after that, the thoughts subsided for just a couple days, if that. It is now almost February and the thoughts will not leave. Minocycline, that awful, life ruining poison, has destroyed my happiness. I have so many amazing things happening in my life right now but this drug has done something so terrible to my mind & emotions. I would do anything to feel like myself again. I just want to feel how I did back in the beginning of November before I ever took that first mind-altering poison. I want to be happy again and feel all the things that I felt before. I want to be "me" again. How do I make it all stop? Please......

  39. Look, this blog has been up for years; there is no class-action lawsuit. Lawyers want to take a case where there has been catastrophic injury. In addition, members of class-action suits don't make money. Only the lawyers make money.

I think this drug has caused problems for me, including liver, muscular, and skin. I just figured it out today.

Don't hold your breath about some class-action suit. Unless people start dying or their limbs suddenly drop off, a lawyer won't take it and even if they do, you likely won't make a dime.

  40. My daughter was prescribed 100mg of minocycline 2 times per day for acne. She took the medication for five months. After she stopped she began having heart palpitations. We took he to the doctor and she was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. The doctor told her the condition was hereditary, although there have been no other cases of thyroid illness in the family. This dangerous drug needs to be removed from the market place and stopped from injuring people. We are very interested in a class action lawsuit. scottincr@yahoo.com

  41. I was prescribed minocycline when I was 17 and took it until I was in college. My teeth darkened and I experienced chronic fatigue symptoms. When I stopped taking the drug, I immediately began to bleed internally. I found out that the minocycline had induced ulcerative colitis, a chronic autoimmune disorder, by permanently altering my intestinal flora. I would like to take part in this class action lawsuit, as my life has been irreversibly worsened by this dangerous drug. turboswami@gmail.com

  43. This drug is horrible. Our 15 year old son went through a horrible time of severe anxiety and panic attacks soon after starting minocycline. He was a very happy child with a lot of friends and suddenly couldn't go to school or most functions.

    1. Please tell me if anyone has gotten over the symptoms of anxiety and panic attacks caused by minocycline. Our son took it for only a little over a week and has had horrible side affects for over 3 weeks now. He has barely been able to function in school, can hardly go to restaurants, church, or any events without feeling so bad. He lost 15 lbs in 2 weeks. It wasn't until we finally took him to a psychologist that he asked me about what he took for acne and wanted to look into it since nothing else added up. He is such a great kids who loved to do things and has many friends. This has completely taken him over and all of our family. I have to have hope there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Please let me know if anyone has been able to overcome any of your issues from this. We feel so horrible for him to have had to go through this. Thank you.

    2. Yes my daughter has worse symtoms and the only thing I can relate it to is this drug. Currently she is seeing a psychiatrist and a psycholgist. wthin 2 weeks of taking this she was hearing voices. was catatonic and in the hospital. The psychritrist told me this medicatication can cause this reaction. Currently she is on antipsychotic meds which is slowly helping. She is 20, she cannot work, go to college or do anything now. i really think the dermatologists should be held accountable for this since they give these meds out like its candy. They only care that the acne has cleared up. I feel they should tell the patient all the side effects. Why on earth is anyone on an antibiotic or any other med for more then a week, unless they are really sick. For any dermatologist to prescribe these drugs for a lengthy time frame to children and young adults is a crime. And they cant be blind to the fact that these very powerful drugs are not going to do something to their patients who are on these for months at a time. My daughter was prescribed 50mg tabs twice a day, for 3 months without a follow up visit. But it only took 2 weeks to completely change her life. I pray to God every day thay she makes a full recovery. That remains to be seen.

  44. I was diagnosed with pseudotumor after taking them also. I ended up having 5 head surgeries because everytime they put a shunt in I got mersa.. I'm still living with it and the side effects because they decided not to retry putting one in. In the beginning I almost went completely blind and because of that I have permanent damage to my eyes. I didn't realize so many people were having the same problems with this drug. I was on the meds alot longer off and on for 2 years, I have other problems and I didn't realize the symptoms were from the drug I was taking to help.

  46. My daughter has been on minocycline 100mg once daily since August 2015. Her dermatologists never mentioned that there could be side effects so I just assumed it was safe. Well let me tell you she has taken the last minocycline pill she will ever take. I have noticed over the last few months that there has been changes in her. Missed school, depression, body aches (the newest being that it hurts from her left shoulder down to her wrist). They have been subtle changes so I have not been very concerned (she is 13 and they go through many changes at that age). Well last night she came to me crying telling me she thinks she is agender because she dosnt relate to females or males? This is so very over the top for Emma to be crying and saying she dosnt know who she is, she cant relate to anyone, she has always been a strong willed girl who was very sure of herself and who she is. To say the least I was crushed because she was so upset. After going over and over it in my mind I started asking myself what has changed in the previous months in her life? And for some reason I decided to look up minocycline psychiatric side effects and found out it can cause depersonalization disorder. I am pissed! If I would have ever though that this medicine could cause such traumatic mental and physical side effect I would never have given it to her. I am mad that her dermatologist never mentioned any side effects and acted like it was just fine to be on long term.

    1. Well my daughter has been off minocycline since mid January and I am astounded at the change I have seen. She is becoming her old self again, slowly but surely. She is happy and strong willed again and has not missed any more school. The aches and pains and headaches have gone away! And she feels like a girl again and feels like she fits in again. She no longer hides in her room and is starting to become very active, as she always was. I am still so upset that her dermatologist gave me no warning of any side effects. I will never give her another oral pill for acne again. Acne is nothing compared to depression and illness in your 13 year old. It was all very scary and I can only hope she recovers completely from this.

Please make sure you personally file a report with the FDA because I don't think Doctors are taking it seriously.

I started getting leisions, Pain in my lowerback, knees, feet, shins, sometimes my arms and shoulders, feels like the bones, I'm very fatigue sometimes and I can't keep a regular job on a regular basis because of the pain, Sometimes I feel like I'm having a heart attack, sharp pain in my chest, I was treating my various symptoms individually, The Dermatologist said the medicine wouldn't cause any of that... I stopped taking it the same year... I never had lupus before but A recent nuclear antibody test at my MD said I was positive for Lupus, I now have to see a specialist, I believe it was the minocycline that did it... If there is a class action lawsuit please help..

  53. We plan to file a report also. I think there also needs to be a support group for all parents involved in this. I went on this blog over 8 months ago reporting symptoms our son was having as a result of minocycline. He only took it for about 8 days and to this day has trouble still. We recently got the dreaded call in the middle of the night that he was at the hospital because a friend picked him up and that he was having suicidal thoughts. This is just not our son and this is after 8 months of taking it. He was doing better as a whole but never the same child. He still retreated to his room and I have to push him to get out and do things and talk to friends. He had a large group of friends and couldn't wait day to day for the next activities before this. He was always a happy smiling child and is just not the same anymore. I'm crying as I write this not knowing what to do. He as a result in in an inpatient facility where the first thing they wanted to do was prescribe antidepressents. The psychiatrist thinks we are bad parents since we are fighting it saying that is what got him there in the first placed and we are totally positive of it. This psychiatrist is trying to dismiss the minocycline also however the psychologist we have had him seeing believes us and is supporting us. We absolutely have to ban together and try to get this out. Kids can't keep having to go through this. We love our son to no end and want to do all we can to help him get through this. I'm so glad the link was posted by KD321 and I plan to report our case today. Let's all speak out to help save our children!

  59. I am a 33 year old single Mother in the UK. I was prescribed Minocycline for acne back in 2007, within 10 days of taking the drug I developed Lupus and have been living with SLE ever since.
I reacted badly to the various drugs given to me including steroids which had the worst effects. So I found alternative methods that were much more successful.
Before I had my son in 2011 I managed to stay well with diet, exercise, yoga & meditation with great results.

But since then I haven't had the time or money to keep this up and the lupus has returned in full force.
    I am now on;
200mg of Hydroxychloroquine per day, plus a ton of vitamins & supplements, 5HTP to stabilise mood, SPF 50 sun cream, moisturisers & bath soaks for my skin rashes.
All this costs money & sometimes I just can't afford it.
I feel tired, my joints hurt, my skin is itchy & painful & I've stopped going outside when it's sunny.
I feel miserable & desperate at times.

Why would someone prescribe a drug that can do this to people? And then do nothing to help.
I once had a doctor shout in my face when I told him that I got Lupus from Minocycline. He called me a liar and said that was not true & that I caused the disease my self.

I am continually looking for a cure but in the meantime-
Yes I think the drug company should at least acknowledge what they have done to people. And then I think they should pay the costs for people living with this disease & anyone else who has been caused pain and suffering from taking their horrible chemicals.
That drug has actually changed the structure of my DNA! Why the hell would they give out something that has that power?

I'm in, put my name down.

  69. I was prescribed minocycline when I was 16. I took it for 3 years and have experienced many terrible side effects. The drug caused me depression, anxiety, killed my immune system, gave me a horrible disgusting cough for a year, it caused me to have permanent reynauds phenomenon and worst of all the most excruciating joint pain. I went to many clinics and told them my symptoms and nobody knew what was wrong with me. I gave up on seeking professional help. I took up to 10 Advil capsules a day for 3 months before realizing I need to stop taking the minocycline. The joint pain left me a month after I stopped taking the medication. I was still left with the low immune system, bad cough, and reynauds phenomenon. This drug needs to be stopped forever. If anyone has any success filing a class action, please contact my google account. 70. I am so grateful to have found you all. My dad was given this drug to treat what his doctor thought was a bacterial infection about ten months ago now. He had a bad allergic reaction to the drug - his feet swelled and he broke out in a bad rash. All these months later, he has large sores on his legs, bumps on his torso that never went away, swollen feet and legs, a terrible itchiness that keeps him up and night and makes it hard for him to function, tremors, chills, anxiety, etc. His doctors have been at a loss - none of his bloodwork is giving them any sense of what's going on. Until this episode he was the healthiest person I've known in my life. It's heartbreaking to see him suffer like this. For those of you who have lived with these problems for years, how did you manage it? Was there anything you could take or do to bring some relief? Please keep me posted about any legal developments.

  71. Hey, I am a forty year old disabled man, I've been taking minocycline for nearly four years! My general practitioner has been ordering blood work every month due to low platelet counts with my red blood cells. My platelets have drastically dropped into the danger zone, so my general practitioner sent me to a hematologist/oncologist where they performed a series of blood test. One of the results of my diagnosis is systemic lupus. The doctor who had prescribed minocyclne to me didn't make me aware of any side effects, or blood defects, or any thing that would hinder any normalcy with daily living. My life has become over dramatic since becoming disabled nearly seven years ago, now with this autoimmune disorder of systemic lupus and other issues that have arisen since taking minocycline has put a halt on my recovery from my neurological pain. It has also started to react against my skin forming rashes on my arms, and facial area. Once my doctors, and dermatologist can give me more information on this situation I too will seek compensation for this difficult and painful disorder! I never new that a man could contract lupus, but as I educate my self on lupus and the other disorder that has taken over since taking minocycline lve learned that some side effects affect both men and women. I do wish everyone well and a recovery from this frightful ordeal!

  73. Hi - I am 41 yrs old and I was prescribed this drug for acne back in 2000. I just recently was taken off of it because I finally told my PCP about my nails turning blue. Over the past 17 years - I have had about 6 separate mds renew this prescription for me. This drug is only meant to be on for a year or less according to my current md and dermatologist - my fingernail beds have been a deep grayish blue for about four years. Friends of mine continue to ask about them. I have also noticed that my gums are a dark gray and my bottom teeth have turned a light gray. My pcp took me off this med immediately and noted in my medical file that it was a allergy. I thought that was odd - I am not allergic, in fact - I was prescribed this med over and over for way too long. Even worse - it has been documented that thyroid issues can result from being on the med. In 2010- I was diagnosed with thyroid nodules and I was a mess. Although - it can't be proven and linked, I honestly believe this med was the culprit leading to my thyroid mess. In addition to that - two years later, I had veritigo - for approx 8 months. It was horrible! The vertigo led to migraines and infusions. I am and always have been a very active and healthy women. This mediation should be banned. The physicians who prescribed it for me knowing the powerful side effects of over usage - should be held accountable. No energy, severe hair loss, jitters, anxiety, depression, hot and cold spells, insomnia, constant join pain, the list goes on. I recently spoke to a lawyer in regards to this - he stated that there is no doctor in our area who will investigate another local doctor. It would cost thousands to pay for an out of state specialist to review my concerns. Disappointing to say the least. If I can help in anyway - please let me know. Becky

  76. Hi, all, my daughter is 16. She started taking Minocyclin for treating acne on Dec. 1st, 2016. The Dermetologist who prescribed this evil medication did not mention any side effects. After 2 months on Minocyclin, she suddenly starts experiencing sever neck and shoulder pain, followed by uncontrollable vomiting, double vision and ringing in ears. She was in and out of emergency room and different doctors appointments for weeks, before she was referred to an ophthalmologist who suspected "Pseudotumor Cerebri". My daughter went through numerous MRIs, blood tests to rule out brain tumor and spinal infections. Due to the rapid detterating vision on her right eyes, she also had Spinal Tap and Optic Nerve Sheath Fenestration surgery. She is currently taking steroid infusion to treat the inflammation on her optic nerve, to save her vision. Before taking Minocyclin, my daughter is a healthy teenager, enjoying her high school journey. Minocyclin put a hard halt on her life, and threading her further with blindness. Please, if this blog is still active, help and contact me. We want to join the group and raise the awareness to all people out there who do not know the horrible side effects of this drug. The damage of this drug to our loved ones are too huge for us to stay silently. I can be reached at weiyanx@gmail.com Thank you!

  77. Hello, I've been keeping close watch on this feed for some time. I live in the uk and I was given minocyline for acne in 2007.
I just found a review for Minocyline for acne on drugs.com & I see that people are still taking it and getting the same symptoms as I did at first.
    This really scared me.
I urge you to take a little time to leave a short review on the site, just to help others.
I say short as people have a short attention span, especially healthy people with lives free of illness!
Also if anyone else finds other review sites please link here so we can warn others.

    Here is the link:

    https://www.drugs.com/comments/minocycline/for-acne.html?status=1

And here is what I wrote:

I took minocycline for acne in 2007.
In the first week I felt itchy all over, then quite quickly I started to develop a rash. I was taken off it straight away but unfortunately it was too late.
I have now been living with Lupus/SLE for 10 years. Some days I can't walk due to pain, swollen joints and weakness. I have a rash all over my skin that sometimes blisters & I've had mild spasms after which I can't feel my face or my legs for up to 12hours.

    Many thanks
    Lexi

  79. Hi, I just want to say my daughter started taking Minocycline 100mg twice a day, and within 3 weeks she started having migraine headaches and vomiting, at first I thought she was experiencing migraines like my father has, since she'd feel better after she threw up, then she had a dizzy spell and her vision went blurry one day, once again I figured it's her eyes since she was due for her yearly eye exam...no amount of Tylenol or ibuprofen helped ease her pain so I took her to the ER and after blood work and a CT scan the Dr came in and said the only thing left to do is a lumbar puncture to make sure there was no infection or blood in her spinal fluid, and that's when he found that the pressure on her brain was over 55 and it should be around 10,she was diagnosed with Idiopathic Intracranial hypertension, they told me to follow up with her pediatrician, still not knowing it was the Minocycline that was causing this. Her pediatrician had no clue and she was the one who prescribed it for her, my daughter was in so much pain and was throwing up so bad that we had to travel and hour and 45 minutes to a hospital that had a pediatric unit once there is had to fight with the Dr's to admit her just so they could give her some relief.once the ophthalmologists came to see her the instantly knew what caused this and asked how long she'd been on the Minocycline.... she now is taking diamox to relieve the pressure and now has to wear glasses. Once we were releases from the hospital we had to follow up with her pediatrician and she acted like it was no big deal.....really my daughter could have went blind, needless to say she's not my daughters Dr anymore... FDA needs to put all these warnings on the labels, better yet take this shit off the market!!! If this goes anywhere please contact me..... thanks Randi White

  85. My 15 year old son is suffering from horrible stomach pain, fatigue and many other things I see listed here. We were told minocycline is safe and any reactions are really rare. Now we are looking at a diagnosis of autoimmune liver disfunction and wondering if we would be seeking legal counsel.

  86. Hi my name is diego. I was prescribed minocin aka minocycline 8 years ago for my acne. I began taking it in cycles of 1 month and perhaps a month or so of waiting time between cycles. I then would take it 3 months at a time. Then increased dosage...until 3 months ago. My acne began to get worse and my stomach and appetite was not by any means regular. I became moody and tired. My acne is soo bad right now despite completely changing my diet. I no longer eat meat, i dont consume dairy. I pretty much eat vegetables and the odd time fish. My face and part of my head are untouchable because of the pain the acne is causing. I dont want to even walk out my door as i feel hideous now.i lost 20 lbs in 2 weeks. I have shoulder pains and back pain that ruin my abaility to work. Does anyone relate to these symptoms?

  87. My 17 year old son had been taking minoncyxline for 18 months for acne. No one warned us how dangerous this medication is. I thought this was a safer option than Acutane. I couldn’t have been more wrong! His labs were never monitored. After 15 months of taking minocycline , he started
having symptoms, none of which we attributed to minocycline. We told the doctors and everything was minimized by doctors. My son was always fatigued, had lost a lot of weight, his skin was itching, his joints were aching. The doctors said, teens need to rest, he needs to eat better, we need to switch to fragrance-free laundry detergent and soaps, and he is having growing pains. I noticed that my son appeared to be getting a tan. On June 6, 2017 he was hospitalized with acute liver failure and minocycline inducedauto-immune hepatitis. After he recovered from the hepatitis he was diagnosed with minocycline induced lupus. Came to find out that our neighbor’s niece died from minocycline 7 years ago. When and How can we stop this!?

  89. Nut wanted to add that as my son started to show symptoms of hepatitis/lupus fatigue, weight loss (30 pounds!!!) joint pain, itching and yellowing skin tone, neither his pediatrician nor his dermatologist suspected hepatitis or minocycline as the cause. My son’s liver enzymes were in the 2000s! My post did not begin to describe my son’s suffering, as some of the others did. You can call what he has Lupus, but this is an autoimmune disease that has affected his entire body: skin-acne conglombata, gastrointestinal - ulcers in his colon; severe sacroilitis-he was unable to walk or sit, in a wheelchair, in chronic severe pain.
A nightmare. Just sharing a few more details. Misery loves company? No, it is just comforting to know we are not alone. That there are people out there who understand what we are going through.

  90. in 2010, daughter had taken six Minocycline pills for acne when she experienced sudden onset, severe suicidal thoughts, begged me not to leave her sight for the ten days it took to clear her system, she was so frightened by the horrific, terrifying thoughts. Here we are years later and she has continued to have chronic suicidal thoughts, debilitating depression and anxiety. It was as though the Minocycline flipped a switch in her brain that will not shut off, even with years of psychiatric meds and therapy. She also has all over, full body, under skin itching, which has not responded to multiple drugs. All tests for lupus, Lyme, celiac come back negative, unable to get a diagnosis. Could Minocycline be the reason?

    1. That itching is representstive of bilirubin levels being off and from what I understand can also effect moods and such. I would request a full liver panel to see what's going on there

    5. My son has also had re-occuring cases of suicidal thoughts and severe anxiety. He does just great for months as if it has gone away and then it comes back. He recently checked himself into a hospital in the middle of the night without us knowing until a few days later. I am totally convinced it's still this. It's like it stays dorman then rears its ugly head. This happened in the fall of his stophmore year. He only took it for 8 days and I had him stop due to stomach issues it caused. He has had problems going places and functioning normally since then. He is now 18 and has checked himself in just two weeks before high school graduation. I am at a loss how to help him and no medical staff understands.

  98. Hi all! After reading this latest thread, I contacted a big pharma class action law suit firm to help us have our voices heard. I was on 100MG of minocycline for nearly 10 years as prescribed by military medicine doctors, and I suffer 20 years later from effects of the meds. I have contacted thejusticelawyer.com THe Eichholze Law Firm in Atlanta, GA to consult on our collective claims. If you'd like to vocalize on behalf of our case, please let me know how to reach you, and I will continue to update on the status of our consultation regarding Minocycline. I was on this antibiotic for 9 years too long, and I want to prevent any others from suffering, today, or tomorrow. -Cheri

    2. Sounds similar to my story. It ravaged my organ after developing Lupus that wasn't found for a couple of years.
Organs that seem to have been affected include brain, heart, skin, eyes, thyroid and who knows what else. My quality of life plummeted, but it seems like it took years before I felt the effects. Then, I thought I was dying and no one could tell me why (allergies and anxiety were common explanations). I had been on Minocycline for years. Once I stopped it, I felt better, but never came back and permanent damaged has been documented through medical tests.
Thank you for reaching out to a law firm. Life has been a lot harder to take on anything new...
      Sincerely,
      Holly

  99. In speaking with a potential class action law firm, they informed me that if you were prescribed a generic form of Minocin (EX: Minocycline, instead of Minocin which is the branded / patented drug name), we have no defense. There is no defense or settlement opportunities for generic versions of Minocin. I my case I was prescribed Minocin, but I'd like to know how many of us suffering were prescribed Minocine, vs. those prescribed Minocycline? (Or frankly, could only afford the generic option).

    THANKS! -Cheri

  100. Please, don't think about the lawsuits.

Go to your doctors and tell them your medicine may have been contaminated with kidney transplant medication.

Tell them they have to give you tests and a physical as if you are coming to them for the first time after taking minocycline or whatever the heck it's called, but now with the knowledge that it may contain kidney transplant medication.

Have them test you for autoimmune symptoms and everything you think you may have. They will have to concur with this new knowledge.

Take action on your health and the rest will follow. Believe me.

  105. My son was on this medicine for over a year before the side effects started to show. Is that normal? I would think It would happen as soon as you started taking it. I wondered if He got a contaminated batch.

  106. Please see link for minocycline batch numbers that were wrongfully mixed with anti-kidney rejection medication. If you have saved your medication bottles I suggest checking their batch numbers or consider sending any left over pills to a lab for analysis.

  108. I was given Minocycline in my teens in the nineties for acne, and was on it for around 6 months I believe. I developed a group of issues that have worsened with time until around ten years ago I became seriously unwell and could no longer work or support myself. Doctors were extremely unhelpful but I finally identified he symptoms as n autoimmune disease and now just two years ago this has been confirmed as Connective Tissue Disease, undifferentiated as yet but with symptoms of Lupus. This misery I have suffered and the life stolen from me is beyond thinking about. Since my treatment was so long ago I know I will not be able to receieve any compensation, and I am spending thousands of my own money on the only treatment that has helped me. FMT, has been my miracle, giving me back some semblance of life. These drugs destroy pour bodies because they kill our vital microbiome, I am certain. Drug companies should be held accountable for what thay have done. I don't know if I can ever get over the anger for what has been done to me. My daughter has similar symptoms to me. I am certain due to the damage to my biome they have damaged her life also.

    Holly.

  110. Hey been following this thread for years now. I took the drug back in 2007 and I’m still trying to heal myself from it. My symptoms are much the same as all of you - rash, fatigue, joint pain, dizzy, nausea diagnosed and then undiagnosed lupus/arthritis/ringworm/osteoporosis etc etc plus…

I just wondered if anyone has managed to heal? If anyone has had any treatment that has worked please let me/us know. I’m completely off all pharmaceuticals now as I just had enough.
The best things I’ve found that have helped me is yoga and meditation, they do seem to reduce my symptoms. But I’m interested in anything else.
Some people have suggested stem cells(?).
Anyway much love and hope too all of you x
